“VETO” social-political movement’s announcement on Arsen Babayan’s illegal arrest

The attempts to seize the Constitutional Court and serve the fads of the present-day authorities have already crossed the line of legitimacy. If the authorities' desire to seize the Constitutional Court was veiled by this or that law a few days before, today this process is conducted through open illegality and persecution. No one rational and unrelated to the authorities in the Republic of Armenia, doubts the illegality and repressive nature of this process.

The series of arrests of CC President's godchild was followed by the interrogation of the family members of the CC president, and later by the arrests of people ever dealt with the CC president.

On October 21 another manifestation of government persecutions and repressions against the CC president was recorded. The Special Investigation Service, headed by Sasun Khachatryan's brother, David Khachatryan, chairman of the board of directors of the Soros office in Armenia, arrested Arsen Babayan, the  former head of the National Assembly press department.

It is obvious that Arsen Babayan has never had any authority to perform the act imputed to him. It is obvious that the arrest is illegal as the indictment filed against Arsen Babayan no longer includes arrest or custody according to the amnesty of a year before. It is obvious that Arsen Babayan's blatant imprisonment is the result of our silence and indifference, which may be ascribed to the new authorities of the Republic of Armenia, with unjustified optimistic expectations for the moment.

In this regard, “VETO” social-political movement expresses its support for Arsen Babayan, who came under the repression presser of the government and is going to take active actions within the law.

We express our strengthening to Babayan's family and friends.

These dark days are temporary.
